This is nothing new.”Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Board told the Duluth News Tribune it plans to tackle the issue in early January, but so far, all five commissioners who have registered opinions on the subject were in favor of voting “yes.” Commissioner Beth Olson even tried to get the vote over with in 2019. - City Pages

Rural Minnesota counties are spurning Trump's refugee ban
It’s a small sample size, so far. But it’s not working out as Trump, or Party of Trump true believers in Minnesota, undoubtedly took for granted that it would.

The three counties mentioned may be more urban than rural ... St. Louis went Clinton 51% while Trump got under 40%.
ReplyDeleteBlue Earth is predominantly Mankato with four of the County Commissioners tied to cities with only one commissioner truly representing the rural area. Nicollet is dominated by North Mankato and St. Peter. Also, aren't these area represented by DFLers in the Minnesota legislature ?
Hagedorn and Stauber will carry the Trump "fear-thy-neighbor" message ... and it will resonate in the rural areas.
BTW ... did you see that Hagedorn voted for the December omnibus spending bill which maintained the Border Wall funding at it's current levels ? I thought he would never vote for anything less than the $5 billion Trump wanted. (Stauber voted with Hagedorn but Emmer voted no)
ICYMI, So far over 20 states and 10 cities or counties have written to the State Department to say they are Refugees Welcome communities ... including states led by Republican governors (Arizona, Iowa, North Dakota, Tennessee and Utah)
