U.S.-China trade deal hype

New talks are scheduled for next week. Even some on the left - the center-left, anyway - seem to be already thinking this will be a big huge massive win for Traitor Trump.

I for one am choosing to be maybe just a little more skeptical, if you know what I’m saying. I mean, a big win like peace and love on the Korean peninsula? The new NAFTA? An end to "illegal" immigration?

I’ll believe it when I see it, and I doubt that’s very likely. I get that somehow Trump fluked into mostly having solid, experienced negotiators handle this. But how is anything really going to be “enforced?” Are lost markets somehow going to be magically brought back better than ever? Good luck.

  1. What will the branding of the deal be ?
"Trump Wins AGAIN as China got down on their knees and begged for an end of the tariffs" ?

Did you listened to Larry Kudlow yesterday ?

A top White House economic adviser said on Tuesday the United States and China were making progress in trade negotiations and he was "cautiously optimistic" about the prospects for striking a deal.

Speaking at a luncheon at the National Press Club, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said the two nations still had issues to address and were discussing a "visitation exchange" as part of their ongoing talks.

"We're not there yet, but we've made a heck of a lot of progress," Kudlow said in response to questions from reporters. "We've come further and deeper, broader, larger-scale than anything in the history of U.S.-China trade."

IF there is a "deal" it will just so that Trump can mark it off as another "Mission Accomplished" for 2020 ... just as one of his supporters explained to me how Trump was completely victorious in terminating NAFTA. I had to explain that the new agreement has not been submitted to ratified by any of the three countries.
Canada has not yet introduced legislation to ratify the deal to the House of Commons. The country would need to pass any such legislation by the second or third week in June if it wants it to clear lawmakers before the summer recess and elections ... and they are want to renegotiate to lift Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum.
Mexico is squawking over the same thing.
Yet, to Trump supporters it's a done deal ... because he declared victory.
