From a couple of days ago:
A political organization closely aligned with the Republican establishment is launching an advertising campaign this week to take on freshman Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota over her comments earlier this year that were widely condemned as anti-Semitic.
An official from American Action Network, a conservative advocacy nonprofit group, told CNN the organization will spend six figures on digital ads that criticize Omar...
AAN, which was founded by former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, also of Minnesota, and the recently deceased GOP donor Fred Malek, has close ties with Republican House leadership. The group is affiliated with the Congressional Leadership Fund, a well-funded political action committee focusing on supporting GOP House candidates. - CNN
I can understand this from the perspective of, what else are Minnesota Republicans
supposed to do? I saw somewhere that they’re trying to get Doug Wardlow to run against Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) in 2020, as Karin Housley is apparently not up for a rematch. That’s just one indication of how desperately thin - indeed, emaciated - the GOP bench is, in this state. House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) seems uninterested in bigger game. Perhaps you see Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka (R-Nisswa) as just dripping with political charisma, but I wouldn’t state the case that way. Anyway:
So my simple point is this: Whether or not you agree with Omar’s remarks, whether or not you were personally offended, anyone who tells you that these nonstop, bipartisan political attacks on her are about fighting anti-Semitism is gaslighting you. - The Intercept
Do the Republicans really want to defeat Representative Omar, or just use her to brand other Democrats with her statements ?
ReplyDeleteLet us remember that the Congressional Leadership Fund spent over $158 million dollars in the mid-terms (there stated goal was to spend $100 million, so getting money from Sheldon Adelson was not a problem)... all for "educational" expenditures to alert voters of evils of Democrat policies.
FunFact : of the top ten incumbents Coleman's group was defending, only two won (ya gotta wonder with all the money spent to help Brian Fitzpatrick retain his seat, if they are unhappy with his bipartisan support on various bills -- guns, VAWA, Full Funding of Special Ed, Liberia refugee protection, ERA, etc.
As I recall, they had paid staff door knocking for Erik Paulsen in the summer of 2017 ... and then there were the television commercials ... “Them” which targeted Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District. The ad slams Dan Feehan
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Liberal Dan Feehan doesn’t share our Minnesota values.
When Colin Kaepernick protested our national anthem, Feehan praised him.
And when Keith Ellison was accused of domestic violence, Feehan stood by him.
Now Dan Feehan wants to join Pelosi’s resistance in Washington.
Raising middle-class taxes.
Giving taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants.
Dan Feehan’s not for us.
He’s one of them.

While other Republicans groups are wary about Hagedorn's general election, CLF was not ... but just be safe, the Feehan attack ad was run in Minneapolis stations ... which is not in the First District ... but an attack on one Democrat could benefit Paulsen and Jason Lewis.
As we know, Paulsen and Lewis lost ... and already Angie Craig is being set-up as someone voters will want to question

QUERY : Will anyone challenge Representative Omar in a primary?
If so, and Coleman's group is truly concerned about America's future and threat of "radicals" in our government, wouldn't you think they would run ads to "educate" primary voters (remember that The American Action Network is a nonprofit issue advocacy group) ?
Ya know, they won't ... ya also know they won't spend any significant money in her district ...after all, the Democrats have garnered at least 69% of the vote in the past three elections ... and Omar got 78%.
